Happy New Year! If your new year has been anything like mine, it feels like we’ve been living in 2026 for months now. Nevertheless, I will thank the Lord and rejoice for each day the year brings.
Now, let’s talk about scams. It has been brought to my attention in the past few months, and more specifically, this past weekend, that people are trying to make money off of my name. I had not realized that my books were such that people would ever think of doing something like this. I’m not nearly on the level of [insert famous author here]. Yet, here we are.
I have discovered that there are some limitations on how I can push back on scams involving my name so here are a some statements that I want to make that are hopefully helpful to those in the future:
- I do not have an Instagram account;
- I do not have a Tiktok account;
- I do not have an X account (Twitter);
- I do not have a gmail account with my name in it. I have never ever opened an email account with the word “author” in it. As I don’t anticipate creating another email account, I probably never will.
- I have exactly two social media accounts. One is personal. The other is with Bluesky (@emnic.bsky.social).
- In case you cannot tell, I am not a social media person. I’m an author, but I’m also an attorney. I’m very hesitant about what I post online (which means I post very little).
- I have never solicited information or conversation with another author or aspiring author via social media. Trust me when I say that I’m extremely introverted. I have to hype myself up to send emails.
- I provide no self-publishing, author-like services. When it comes to self-publishing, sometimes I’m out here struggling, folks. Can you not tell? It takes me a ridiculous amount of time to get my books in paperback. Who am I to tell others how to self-publish?
- I will never personally recommend marketing or advertising companies, particularly because I don’t use such companies. I probably should. I think I’ve done it once in my whole writing career. Maybe one day I will get into it. Today is not that day. Regardless, if a company says I use their services, I don’t.
In short, don’t trust anything that comes at you with my name on it outside of this blog or my books themselves. I have neither the time nor the energy to do anything past writing and posting my books online. When in doubt, feel free to email me using my one and only available email address. Thank you to those who have notified me of the ill use of my name. I appreciate you! Now, I shall return to my writing cave where Abram and Luane are waiting for me so that I can hopefully (Lord willing!) have their story to you by next month! Happy New Year!
